Galatasaray have an extremely low probability of reaching the top eight in the new Champions League league phase. Updated simulations after two matchdays show their chance stands at just 0.7%.
Analysis conducted by Football Meets Data projects Galatasaray to finish the league phase in 32nd place. Their probability of making the top 24 and entering the play-off round is calculated at 28.3%. Football Meets Data stated, "Galatasaray'ın ilk 24 ihtimali %28.3 olarak gösterildi."
These figures follow Galatasaray's 4-1 home defeat to Barcelona in their most recent Champions League outing. Domestically, the picture is brighter; the team leads the Süper Lig with 16 points from 7 games, one point clear of Beşiktaş. Top scorer Victor Osimhen has netted 6 goals in 5 appearances.
DOMESTIC FORM
While struggling in Europe, Galatasaray maintain stronger form at home. They beat Kasımpaşa 3-1 in their last league match, recording two wins, one draw, and two losses in their last five Süper Lig games.
Simulation results list Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Betis, and Sporting as the teams with the highest probability of a top-eight finish. Yeni Şafak said, "Galatasaray'ın lig aşamasını ilk 8'de bitirerek doğrudan son 16 turuna yükselme olasılığı ise yüzde 0,7 olarak gösterildi."
Under the new format, the top eight teams from the league phase qualify directly for the round of 16. Teams finishing between 9th and 24th enter a play-off round, while those below 24th are eliminated from European competition.
Galatasaray now turn their focus to the Süper Lig. The team will face Gençlerbirliği away on Saturday, 17 October.
