Galatasaray's new signing Rafael Leao made a surprise appearance before the fans at Ali Sami Yen Stadium following a 3-2 Super Lig win over Göztepe. The Portuguese star came onto the pitch after the final whistle to lead the victory celebrations, embracing teammate Victor Osimhen. This moment came as Galatasaray maintained top spot with 7 points from 3 games.
Rafael Leao's move to Galatasaray was preceded by an emotional farewell. The player was not part of AC Milan's squad for their 2-0 Serie A win over Venezia at San Siro, where he said goodbye to his teammates. "It's a difficult time," Leao said. "I've said goodbye to my team-mates after seven years." He added, "My love for Milan will never end; even from afar, I'll always be watching them." Milan accepted a €45 million offer from Galatasaray for Leao, ending his seven-year stint with the Italian club.
The match where Leao was presented was a thrilling contest played on Sunday at Ali Sami Yen. Göztepe took an early lead through Novatus Miroshi in the 16th minute. Galatasaray equalized via Davinson Sanchez in the 33rd minute. The home side started the second half strongly, with Gabriel Sara putting them ahead 10 minutes after the break. Just minutes later, Victor Osimhen converted a penalty to make it 3-1. Göztepe pulled one back through Juan Santos, and Osimhen was denied a second goal by a tight offside call. The win took Galatasaray's goals scored this season to 9, with 4 conceded.
Rafael Leao is currently listed on Galatasaray's injuries page and has yet to make his official debut. The player, also featured on the club's squad page, is a subject of interest regarding his return timeline. During this period, the team maintains its league leadership with a record of 2 wins, 1 draw, and 0 losses. Leao's physical condition and integration into training are being closely monitored by the coaching staff. Fans are eager to see the star contribute on the pitch soon.
League leaders Galatasaray will next face 5th-placed Rizespor at home on December 6, 2026. Whether Leao will be available for that match remains unclear. The team aims to protect its top position with a +5 goal difference. The win over Göztepe and Leao's introduction signal a positive start to the campaign.
