Galatasaray legend Fatih Terim has praised rivals Trabzonspor for their historic signing of Mohamed Salah ahead of this week's top-of-the-table clash. Terim described the Egyptian star's move to the Turkish Süper Lig as a landmark achievement for the country's football.
Speaking to Turkish outlet 61saat, the former Galatasaray and Turkey manager highlighted Salah's trophy-laden career. "We are talking about a player who has been at the highest level for years with Liverpool, and has won everything," Terim said. "The Europa League, the Champions League, and Club World Cups."
Terim noted that clubs from the Emirates and Saudi Arabia were ready to pay enormous sums for Salah, with giants from Spain, Italy, and England also interested. He reserved special praise for the Trabzonspor board that secured the deal: 'President Ertuğrul Doğan and his administration deserve every appreciation and congratulation.'
The comments have heated up the atmosphere before the traditional rivals meet at Papara Park on Friday, 19 September. Galatasaray arrive as league leaders with 13 points from five games, one point clear of Beşiktaş. The team has started the season with four wins and a draw, beating Kocaelispor 1-0 last time out.
Trabzonspor sit ninth with 7 points. The last meeting between the sides ended in a 2-1 home win for Trabzonspor in April. Friday's match presents a major opportunity for an early break at the summit. Ahead of the fixture, the injuries list includes Günay Güvenç, Mario Lemina, Victor Osimhen and Wilfried Singo.
